Easter 2021

Easter getaway. A trip to next door!
A short blog about reacquainting ourselves with the Lodge.

As owners we are so grateful to have Sladen Lodge full of guests all year round however over this past year our doors have been shut for the most part due to coronavirus. Easter is normally a time for us to get together with family, similarly the Lodge is usually being enjoyed by a big group of guests but seeing as neither were possible this year we wondered how to make the most of the holiday. That was just it, we were going to have a holiday! So, we packed our bags, walked down the garden path, opened the gate to next door, and let ourselves into the Lodge. It was fantastic!

We chose to unpack in room 1 making the most of the stunning views of the valley springing into life. To ensure we got the full guest experience we opened a bottle of champagne on the patio and had sundowners on our first night.

After a great night’s sleep Richard made our morning coffee and we enjoyed it in bed- a far cry from 6am zoom meetings! After a clear frosty start the sun warmed up and we had perfect weather, warm enough to enjoy breakfast al fresco which was an unexpected treat.

After our lazy breakfast we both decided to do something more active. While Richard went off for a run, I zoomed in to my yoga class setup in the dining room giving me plenty of room to spread out and work on my handstands. After the class I took my mat outside and practiced in the garden too.

When Richard got back from his run, we had some relaxing time sat on the patio in the glorious sunshine.

Our second night consisted of Tom Hanks, pizza, and pyjamas. We ordered takeaway pizzas from Sunshine Pizza which were delicious as always and settled in for a movie night, able to spread out and take a whole sofa each.

On Sunday morning we woke to discover the Easter Rabbit had been, in keeping with tradition, the annal easter egg hunt took place, but this time without our children and in the Lodge garden. There were some more adult hiding spots this year- some even too tall for Richard. Again, we were lucky enough to have our breakfast outside with our chocolate treasure this time though.

In the afternoon we decided to make the most of the amazing sunshine and have a go on the tandem bicycle, after a wobbly start we cracked it and went for a short cycle along the valley (not wanting to push our luck).

After all that excitement I, correction- the Easter Rabbit, deserved a soak in the bath with a gin and tonic while Richard prepared an Easter dinner. Being down at the Lodge for a full weekend was complete luxury for us and it was great to have the full guest experience. We were able to notice and appreciate the small things in better detail, like being able to pick fresh rosemary from the herb box in the garden when we were cooking, and the washing and drying facilities for muddy clothes after a run.

Reacquainting ourselves with the Lodge has helped us to fully prepare for our reopening in June and given us a boost of enthusiasm to get people out to the Peak District and enjoy what we have to offer.

December 2020

Happy Christmas everyone! 2020 has been a challenging year and we are raising a glass here at Sladen thinking of everyone and hope this is a relaxing time for you and your loved ones.

We have been very fortunate to be together as a family this festive season and are thinking ahead to 2021 looking forward to (hopefully) bigger gatherings of friends and family. We really can’t wait to welcome guests back to Sladen Lodge to enjoy the beautiful Peak District. See you all in 2021!

November 2020

Remember, remember the 5th of November, gunpowder treason and plot!

Bonfire night was a little different this year and people all over the country were celebrating in their own ways. Here are Sladen we all wrapped up and huddled round the fire for a family favourite- roasted bananas and chocolate (and a drink or two to keep the cold out!)

Lockdown round 2 and the nights drawing in is leading to more inventive ways of having fun and keeping spirits high. We hope everyone is staying warm and safe this Autumn.

October 2020

We’ve discovered the fabulous Sauced Here and want to shout about their products and services from the rafters!

Due to the new “rule of 6” we are bound by law to accommodate groups with a maximum of 6 guests.  However, this means that for the lucky few, you are able to enjoy all of the facilities that Sladen Lodge has to offer.  We invite you to relax in style – spreading out and socially distancing as much as you desire.  We believe that we offer the safest possible space to share special gatherings with your friends and loved ones.  Please do get in touch for a quotation based on the number of bedrooms you require.

July 2020

“We’re good to go” – and we look forward to seeing you back!  It has been a long lockdown for everyone and we hope you have stayed safe and well.  Here at Sladen Lodge we have used the time to make somechanges and prepare so that we are ready to welcome guests back in a safe environment.

We believe that the location, exclusivity and cleaning protocols we are following mean that we can offer you one of the safest environments in which to enjoy a stress-free, relaxing and very special getaway together with family and friends.

We have been busy rearranging bookings for our loyal guests and as a result have availability in July, August and September.  Please take a look at our website {insert link} for up to date availability – we have free weekends, midweek and week long stays.  We are offering a discount of £100 per room for smaller groups.  We look forward to hearing from you!

May 2020

Although we are still closed for guest holidays, we have been very busy behind the scenes this month. We’re calling it Maintenance May, making use of the quiet time to paint, fix, replace and prepare the lodge. It’s never looked so good!

As the lodge is situated just next door to our home, we have been able to keep safe as a family and everyone’s been around to lend a hand.

We’re also working on an exciting new website with a modern design and contact system so when we are ready to start taking bookings again and you will be able to book your stay with ease.

March 2020

COVID-19 and lockdown! Well we never thought we’d see the day, but Sladen Lodge is closed for the foreseeable future. We want to apologise and thank all of our guests who have been patient and understanding as we rearrange bookings and navigate an action plan for the coming months.

We want to say a huge THANKYOU to all of our NHS and keyworks who are keeping the country safe and running through this difficult time and will be joining the Clap for Carers loudly from our doorstep!

From our family to yours we hope everyone is staying safe and being kind – we’ll get through this together.

February 2020

We are delighted to welcome Mind For You back to Sladen Lodge again this year. Mind For you offers supported holidays throughout the year for people living with dementia and their relatives/carers to enjoy together, as an alternative to traditional respite. They find the layout of Sladen Lodge ideal for their guests and this will be the fourth year of staying with us.

Improvements to the Lodge – January 2019

We have upgraded our sitting room with new sofas and soft furnishings for a more modern, relaxed atmosphere.

We’ve also installed a table football and other games in the atrium, along with outdoor table tennis for the garden.
