 The location of Sladen Lodge leaves you spoilt for choice. Whether you want to take your friends and family on an adventure, or have a love of British history, the Peak District doesn’t disappoint.

Hathersage offers a wealth of activities to have a go at or places to visit nearby. For the adventurous there are many organisations offering climbing, caving, and swimming to name but a few. Here’s our list of some of our favourite activities nearby:

 
 

Lost Earth Adventures

Offering a varied range of exhilarating activities from caving, climbing and abseiling, to gorge walking and canoeing. They can tailor your experience from one off thrills to action packed multi activity whole days.

Peak Cavern

Located in the valley nearby are ancient caves ready to explore. Visit Peak Cavern or take an underground boat ride through Speedwell Cavern.

Hathersage Swimming Pool

Newly refurbished and one of the few outdoor lidos in the country, a swim here is a must. Open all year round- warm in the summer to suit everyone and cool in the winter for those brave enough!

Clay Pigeon Shooting

Take position and aim high! Clay pigeon shooting is a unique experience and suitable for all in the safe hands of hosts Andrew and Chris. Catering for young shots and beginners to those more experienced who want coaching.

 

Perhaps taking in the history and culture of the Peak District is more your pace, in which case you may like to visit Bakewell for its famous puddings or Chatsworth House to explore the stately grounds for the day.

Explore over 25 rooms in the stately home including the Painted Hall, State Rooms, Sculpture Gallery and discover its art, history and family. Pay a visit to one of Derbyshire’s finest country houses.

Eyam, The Plague Village

Immerse yourself in the incredible story of its unselfish villagers, who sealed themselves off from the outside world in the 17th century to prevent the deadly disease from spreading.

Bakewell

Idyllically situated on the banks of the river Wye, Bakewell’s stone buildings, medieval five-arched stone bridge and quaint courtyards are a magnet for photographers, sightseers and puddling lovers alike.

Haddon Hall

Haddon is acclaimed as one of the most beautiful medieval manor houses in the whole of England, and rightly so.  It’s an absolute must-see for any visitor to the Peak District.
