WALKING

WALKS FROM THE DOOR, HOP ON THE TRAIN OR BUS, FAMILY FAVOURITES

Sladen Lodge sits in the midst of the Peak District National Park. It nestles in the Hope Valley amongst gently rolling hills and dramatic gritstone edges. It is a walker’s paradise and a sightseeing haven which is located in a truly beautiful part of England.

We have a selection of walks to suit everyone, from those who seek a leisurely low-level stroll to enjoy the surrounding wildlife, to those who like to get up high to enjoy the panoramas. The best thing about Sladen Lodge is its fantastic location, all of our favourite walks are either straight from the door or a short trip on the bus or train so you can leave the cars behind.

Our family favourites include walks from the door through ancient woodland to spy Robin Hoods cave on Stanage Edge, cross the fairytale “stepping stones” on the Derwent River or picnic by the papermill. Simply put on your boots and step outside to start your adventure.

If getting on top of things is more your style maybe taking on the Kinder Moorland walk from Edale train station or circling Mam Tor would excite you. View our live Met Office weather tracker for planning out your trips here.

Or perhaps the enticement of a hearty pub lunch and toasty hearth at the end of a walk will get you going!

In that case a trip up to Longshaw Estate and through Padley Gorge to Fox House might be more your thing.

Or perhaps taking in the steep cliffs at Cave Dale and ending in Castleton with an array of pubs sounds rewarding.

Both Fox House and Castleton can be reached on the local bus route which stops just outside the Lodge, so you don’t have to worry about parking.

CYCLING

ROAD BIKING, MOUNTAIN BIKING AND FAMILY FAVOURITES

The Peak District is not only a paradise for walkers and ramblers. There is a rich array of cycle routes and paths, from stimulating downhill mountain bike trails to road biking for the hilly enthusiast, from family friendly routes along disused railway lines such as the Monsal Trail to the circular route around the Ladybower Reservoirs.

Sladen Lodge has a sturdy and secure 16 bike lockup for you to bring your own bikes and store them safely.
Alternatively, we can recommend cycle hire from:

“After over thirty years of walking weekends with friends we all agreed this has to be one of the best, if not the best, we have ever stayed in. The equipment, the location, the quality, were all just great. Hope to go back there next year.”
